Limit OrderDucats have existed in Europe since the 13th century; gold ducats from Venice, for example, were of great importance in the late 13th century. However, most of the gold ducats still in circulation today come from Austria, where gold ducats were minted from the 16th to the 20th century. Ducats were an official means of payment in Austria until 1858, and as the gold ducats from Austria were authorized as commercial gold coins, they could continue to be minted until 1915. The year 1915 can be seen on all modern restrikes, as can Emperor Franz Joseph and the double-headed eagle. For this reason, the 4 ducat gold coin from Austria is an investment coin with a rather low collector's value.
