And in the world of precious metals, platinum is in no way inferior to gold as a favorite investment. At times, platinum was even more expensive than gold. However, the highs were followed by a brutal crash: after a record price of USD 2,250 before the financial crisis, there was a veritable rollercoaster ride; in 2011, platinum had recovered to USD 1,900 per troy ounce. In mid-2017, platinum stood at USD 950, having already risen significantly from its low of around USD 830 in December 2015.
